REV. DR. K.C. ABRAHAM PASSES AWAY
Rev. Dr. Kuruvilla C. Abraham (80) passed away in Bangalore on 12 th june 2016
“The Rev. Dr. Kuruvila Cherukara Abraham, known to his colleagues and students as KC, is an outstanding Christian leader, a theological educator par excellence, social thinker, pioneer and the Indian face of contextual theologies” said the Serampore University while conferring him an honorary doctorate in Theology recently.
An ordained pastor of the Church of South India Madhya Kerala Diocese, Dr. Abraham pursued his STM and Ph.D from Union Theological Seminary, New York, and Princeton University respectively. He returned to India and reinvented Liberation Theology anew in India.
He has taught in India and abroad in many of the leading Universities and Seminaries such as Emmanuel College, Toronto, Princeton Theological Seminary, San Francisco Theological Seminary, Tainan Theological Seminary, Taiwan, the Toronto School of Theology, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
While in India, he was professor at the United Theological College in Bangalore, and served as Director of the Ecumenical Christian Centre in Whitefield, and the Director of SATRI, (South Asian Theological Research Institute) in Bangalore.
Dr. Abraham belongs to the Cherukara family of the Vayalil Kudumbam of Kodukulanji in Chengannur. He is also the Patron of the Vayalil Kudumbam.
Of late he with his wife Dr. Molly Abraham founded the Liza’s Home, a home for the differently-abled children and women. Ajith (California) and Liza (Bangalore) are his children.
Funeral will be held at the St. Mark’s Cathedral in Bangalore at 10.30 am on Tuesday, 14th June.
